Clear out your Refrigerator (and then keep it cleared)

Tip of the day: Clear out your refrigerator… and then keep it cleared!

For those of you who endured power outages during hurricane Matthew, this might be the easiest for you since your fridge is probably already cleared out.

Americans go through a lot of food waste. Because we can’t see it through the mass of food containers in our fridge or we can’t see into the containers we put leftovers in, etc. Here’s my challenge to you, clean out your refrigerator, wipe it down, and start from scratch. Only put back condiments that aren’t expired and that you use. Vow to only put leftovers in clear containers (Pyrex!). Pick a day of the week every week that you will glance through your fridge and throw out food that has gone bad or veggies that have wilted. (Composting these would be best but I understand if you haven’t gotten there, yet.) If you stick to this, you will find that your refrigerator will maintain being cleared out, that less food will go bad, that you will always have a good handle of what you have and what you need to buy on your next grocery run, and that you will generally feel good about your life when you look into your fridge.
