No, that’s not a landfill, it’s my backyard

FAILURE POST!

You guys, this is part of my backyard. I’m not even kidding. Look at all that trash! And that’s a tiny part of what the total waste has actually been! I could not be more ashamed.

For the past 2.5 months, our home has been under major construction as we added 2 more bedrooms onto the back of our house. Now as these additions will enable us to not all have to sleep in one bedroom suite (which we have been doing since Lucy was born so when Nori was added, it just became too much!) and to have space for family and friends and guests, it has also created an incredible amount of waste and for that, I am so sad. There was no way in life that we could have done this addition using reclaimed wood, flooring, etc. so for us, it was a necessary evil. But it has made me so thankful for the hard work we put in everyday to do the best we can to reduce waste in other ways.

I wrote this quick post in part because I wanted to show you that there are times in our lives where waste is inevitable but also because I wanted to explain the radio silence (I’ve been doing some traveling to get the girls and I out of the mess). Well, that and the election. But we won’t get into that.

I hope you are continuing with whatever less waste practices you have taken on! Keep up the good work! And may you never create as much waste as this home project has these past 2 months!
